Covid-19 Guidelines

MONTESSORI SCHOOL ST. CLAIR

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

Masks

All Montessori personnel are required to wear masks during school hours, including during our Before/After care programs. To keep our families and our staff safe, children also will be required to wear masks while indoors and outdoors.

Please send a clean mask with your child each day. Per CDC guidelines, cloth masks need to be washed after each use. You can also find disposable masks in kids’ sizes.

Social Distancing

Staff will utilize social-distancing as much as possible. We know children need to be comforted and may require physical touch (e.g. such as if they fall on the playground and need a Band-Aid), but we will be mindful about keeping 6-feet between us and the children as much as possible. We will also guide the students to keep 6-feet between themselves and other children.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

Everyday, Montessori staff will take their own temperature before coming into the school. When students arrive at the school, we will take their temperature. Please do not leave your child until after his/her temperature has been taken. If your child has a temperature of 99.9 degrees Fahrenheit or higher temperature, they will need to return home until they are fever-free for 48 hours.

Please inform staff if your child has had a fever, or if you have administered fever medication.

Temperature checks are performed at the front porch or the playground gate, depending on the weather and other eventualities. A staff member is located in these locations to greet your child.  Only staff and children are permitted in Before/After Care room and the classroom.

Please wear a mask while dropping off your child and picking them up. Keep 6 feet between yourself and other parents and children. If you are bringing other children with you during pickup/drop off, please remember that siblings 2 years old and above need to wear a mask as well on Montessori property.

Illnesses

Now more than ever, we ask parents to keep their children home if they have a sore throat, a cough, or other symptoms like a runny nose, sneezing or congestion. If your child has seasonal allergies or asthma, we will take these conditions into consideration, but please be proactive and keep your child home if they are exhibiting any sign of communicable illness. Doing so will help Montessori children and staff stay healthy and help ensure we can keep our school open.

Hand Washing

When your child arrives at school, after having their temperature checked, each child will wash their hands for 20 seconds with soap and water before playing.   Throughout the day, children will be asked to wash their hands on an ongoing basis. Please talk to your child about this expectation and stress the importance of hand-washing.

Outdoor Learning

We will try to work outside on front porch and/or on the playground as much as possible.  When we are in the classroom or Before and After Care room, the windows and doors will be open for fresh air to enter as much as possible.

Personal Belongings

Staff will leave personal belongings in their vehicles. Similarly, children’s backpacks will not be brought in the building, but stored safely outdoors on hooks which can be sanitized. Please be mindful of the backpacks and lunch boxes you choose for your children. Opt for materials which can be wiped down, rather than fuzzy, furry, suede, bedazzled backpacks which can collect germs and be difficult to clean.

Indoor Shoes

To limit children and staff bringing germs into our clean school on the bottoms of their feet, all children will need washable indoor shoes to keep at school. After playground time, children must remove their outdoor shoes and put on these indoor shoes. We recommend Natives, Crocs or similar rubber shoes which can be easily wiped down and sanitized each day. Please make sure that your child can remove and put on their own shoes without assistance.

Water Bottles

Montessori children will need reusable water bottles for daily use. Please pick a unique water bottle design for your child, so that they can easily identify which is theirs, and be sure to write their name on it with Sharpie. These bottles will be washed daily by staff. This is what children will drink from during lunch time as well as during the day.

Lunches

Please send healthy lunches for your child which they can easily open and unwrap themselves. Bento boxes are a great solution, as opposed to sending many packages and baggies which kids often need help opening. This will help prevent the spread of germs and also help teach children autonomy and self-reliance.

No Visitors:

No After School programs

We will have no after school programs such or visitors at our school until January.

After School programs include Art, Karate or Music.

 No Field trips

There are no field trips at this time.  We will reevaluate in January.

 Blankets and Pillows

Children do not need blankets and pillows for quiet time. If necessary, you may send these items, but please do so in a bag which can be sealed shut. It will be stored outdoors until needed for your child’s nap. Please remind children that stuffies cannot come into the school at this time, but if a special lovie is needed, it can stay in your child’s sealed nap bag until quiet time begins.

Cleaning:

Our facility is cleaned daily by our hardworking staff. Bathroom light switches, toilet handles and sink faucets will be wiped after each use.

Supplies

Each child will have their own crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc. which will be supplied by the school and clearly labeled. Please talk to your child about the importance of only touching their own supplies and not bringing in toys or items from home. No personal items are allowed in the school building.
